ITU Celebrates Girls in ICT Day

ITU celebrates every year in April, the Girls in ICT Day.  The aim is to encourage young women and girls to pursue their studies and careers in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, and other fields and help them achieve their dreams. The theme of Girls in ICT Day for 2023 year is ‘Digital Skills for Life’ and has been identified in consultation with youth.

CMAI/TEMA along with ITU APT India will promote SDG 5 - Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls through ICTs International Girls in ICT 2019, to recognize the achievements of women and inspire others to act for gender equality. This is a global initiative of the ITU to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in ICTs. The initiative is committed to celebrate and commemorate the International Girls in ICT Day on the fourth Thursday of every April. This would be an opportunity for girls and young women to see and experience ICTs in a new light encouraging them to consider a future in technology. Since 2011, International Girls in ICT Day has been celebrated in 171 countries around the world with more than 9,400 events and participation of over 325,000 girls and young women 

The goal of this event is to bring leaders in information technology together from across the globe.

•Their journey into the tech industry
•The reasons for engaging in the tech industry (planned or accidental?)
•Their impacts in the chosen field
•Their leadership experiences (the highs and lows)
•Key victories and failures
•And other experiences they would love to share.

4. Smart Woman – Great Nation Launched by CMAI And TEMA on 26th May 2019

Smart Women – Great Nation is the first programme initiated by CMAI/TEMA Woman Empowerment enabling women empowerment in rural areas through woman education, awareness, skill development, earning capacity improvement for livelihood.

Developing a sense of autonomy and self confidence among women to act individually  and collectively to change social relation ships and institutions to amlifiying their voices is key for women development. 

Emphasis on infrastructure to support and improve women and youth social status is the first step for suistainable development.
